Germany’s domestic intelligence service (BfV) published a document discussing how foreign intelligence services conduct espionage activities inside Germany, specifically focusing in Human Intelligence (HUMINT) methods.

Foreign intelligence services investigate espionage activities
in Germany and also use human sources (HUMINT). Using various
methods, they try to persuade both German and their own nationals to
    cooperate.

However, possible hazards can be minimized. The security authorities can alsobe involved. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution is responsible for defending against espionage and sabotage by foreign intelligence services and is available as a confidential point of contact.
