The President of the Federal Intelligence Service has been rescued from Ukraine in dire need, as FOCUS learned. Several days ago, before the Russian invasion, Bruno Kahl traveled to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev to discuss the background of the situation with his Ukrainian colleagues.
But the attack by Russia early Thursday morning, which surprised everyone, also surprised Kahl. After Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called on all Germans to leave the country, a special department of the Federal Police, Personal Protection Abroad, took action and evacuated diplomats and BKA liaison officers overland.
But Kahl could not reach this evacuation unit in time. Therefore, a special department of the BND had to rescue him from this dangerous situation. According to FOCUS information, Kahl was on his way to Poland on Friday afternoon and should set foot on EU soil, i.e. arrive in Poland , in the afternoon. This process was confirmed by FOCUS from security circles.
In a statement from the BND that afternoon, Kahl said: "In the meantime he has reached a border crossing. He is back in the EU and is expected in Berlin today.”
